This is the first report by the Spanish Network for Sustainable Development (REDS), the Spanish chapter of the United Nations SDSN (Sustainable Development Solutions Network), on progress in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the municipal level.
The document provides a comprehensive overview of the state of sustainable development at the local level for all provincial capitals in Spain, cities with over 80,000 inhabitants, and the twelve main metropolitan areas in our country. The 100 cities analysed collectively account for almost 50% of the Spanish population.
The report identifies 85 indicators adapted to the Spanish context that have enabled progress towards the SDGs in Spain to be assessed.
The objectives of this report are as follows:
– to assist Spanish cities in monitoring the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in relation to international standards.
– to provide municipal managers with useful information that will enable them to identify other cities facing similar situations and challenges.
– to facilitate social participation and engagement, thereby encouraging interest in the 2030 Agenda among policy makers and technical experts in local administrations.
