This special issue of the Journal “Ciudad y Territorio Estudio Territoriales” presents an overview of the current situation in Spain on the integration of gender dimensions in urban planning. The issue includes an introductory article that presents a brief reference to the origins and background of current equality policies in Spanish urban planning. The articles are divided into three sections: international context and legal context; regional experiences; case studies.
This special issue prompts us to consider future prospects. At this juncture, the discourse appears to be shifting towards normalization, creating an environment conducive to the establishment of professional and institutional practices that systematically incorporate the specific needs of women and gender-related issues in urban and territorial planning in Spain.
